Ecological Grief and Mourning in the Literature and the Arts in the Anglophone World

Dans la littérature comme dans les arts, les artistes et écrivains ont exploré de nouvelles façons de faire le deuil des pertes écologiques passées, présentes et futures, en tentant de visualiser et d'exprimer le chagrin écologique mais aussi de créer des espaces de mémoire. Émergent alors des questionnements et une remise en question de la possibilité de faire ce deuil de la nature : la nature est-elle deuillable ? Comment faire ce deuil ? Quel est le rôle des écrivains et des artistes dans ce processus individuel et collectif ?
 
Alors que pour certains, le chagrin environnemental cède la place à la désolation ou à un sentiment de mélancolie irrémédiable, d'autres le considèrent comme une forme de résilience ou même une incitation à l'action, une source d'activisme dans l'art.
 
Ce colloque international entend explorer le concept de deuil écologique dans le monde de la littérature et des arts du monde anglophone. Il souhaite aborder la longue histoire du deuil écologique à partir du XVIIIe siècle, tout en explorant ses conséquences sur la révolution industrielle. Interviendront des chercheurs, de grandes universités étrangères, travaillant dans le domaine de la littérature, de l'histoire de l'art, des études visuelles, musicales, cinématographiques, culturelles, ou encore de la philosophie et de l'anthropologie.

Ce collogue international, entièrement en anglais, est organisé par Estelle Murail, co-directrice du département Langues (Institut Catholique de Paris), Laura Ouillon (Université Paris Cité) et Héloïse Lecomte (IHRIM) en partenariat avec l'Université Paris Cité - ECHELLES (UMR 8264), l'Institut Catholique de Paris, l'IHRIM (Institut d’Histoire des Représentations et des Idées dans les Modernités – CNRS UMR 5317) et la SEAC (Société d’Etudes Anglaises Contemporaines / Society of Contemporary British Studies).
